![]() ![]() ![]() We were hoping to have a stand alone device in which the application program and its database could be executed directly from a USB Drive when the drive is inserted into desktops running the typical versions of Windows. This was not correct and the reason for the error is unknown. Executing setup from the USB drive unfortunately resulted in an error message that there was insufficient storage space on the host computer. ![]() Its DLLs were included in the VB project, everything compiled properly and Published without obvious errors. This process worked properly, but we had trouble with a commercial text formatting tool. The SQL Compact DLLs were included in the published information. ![]() The SQL Compact database was stored on the same drive. The application program was then "Published" to a USB drive. The SQL Server and SQL Server Compact code is, unfortunately, quite different. This involved converting about 1500 SQL statements which was a major undertaking. We next converted a VB program that does our database operations so that it will work with SQL Compact for implementation on a USB drive that contains the database and the application program. The software is running on Windows Server 2008. The only SQL conversion choice is SQL 2005, but the program works properly with SQL 2008. It converted a large, complex SQL Server 2008 database with a number of different field types to SQL Compact with no errors. Fortunately, there is a excellent product from Primeworks called the "Data Port Wizard". We have these software running, but can't find the tool and don't know if it even exists. It was my understanding that there may be a tool to do this in the RTM versions of either Visual Studio 2008 or SQL Server 2008. This is a follow-up on private deployment.Īs noted, it is first necessary to convert an existing database from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Compact format. ![]()
